abstract:The World Hockey Association was a proposed professional hockey league intended to compete with the established National Hockey League during the 2004–05 NHL lockout. Noteworthy for instability and failed plans, its organization operated several minor and junior leagues thereafter.
The United States Football League, the World Football League, the WorldHockeyAssociation, and the American Basketball Association all lasted far longer than the XFL, despite the fact that none had network television contracts in their first seasons.
