abstract:Ushio Shinohara (born 1932, Tokyo), nicknamed “Gyu-chan”, is a Japanese Neo-Dadaist artist. His bright, large work has been exhibited at prestigious institutions internationally, including the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, the Guggenheim Museum SoHo, New York, the Japan Society, New York;,The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Leo Castelli Gallery, New York, Galerie Oko, Berlin, The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Seoul, among others.
That it's so entertaining as it recounts the tumultuous 40-year marriage of an emotionally difficult 80-year-old Japanese Pop Artist and his onetime teenaged bride a union that has always been plagued by issues of money, alcohol and ego testifies to the tenacity of its director and the charisma of its subjects: Ushio (the Boxer) and Noriko Shinohara (Cutie).
