Last December, Google unveiled a gargantuan effort to scan the library collections of Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, the UniversityofMichigan and the New York Public Library into an Internet database.
Directors of the digital library, first conceived in 2010, include officials from Harvard University and the UniversityofMichigan and a former executive at Google Inc.
