The surge in public tennis courts, frequently called "tennis centers, " is in part due to a USTA initiative meant to create public spaces that "compete with the coffee shop and thefitnesscenter for the space that people go to be in the company of others and to stay fit, " says Christian.
Among other changes, the renovation will convert a conference room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean into fitnesscenter, upgrade the resort's Italian and steak-and-seafood restaurants with Hawaiian fare, and open a new surf-themed store in the lobby.
After several meals at Il Lago, guests might want to work out in the sixth-floor fitnesscenter or get a massage from one of the hotel's staff therapists.
