The Conservatives have accused Labour of flip-flopping over the issue after they said the timingwasnotright for a referendum but did not rule out having one at some point in the future.
He said the timingwasnotright for a royal commission, because it would "cut across" the judicial inquiry and it would be better to wait until after the next election, when changes such as the new elected police commissioners would have been in place for three years.
Instead I played along and usually negotiated an even lower price than they initially offered before finally telling them that the timingwas just notright.
