He said the government had, among other things, marginalised sport in schools, leading to a 30% fall in the number of trainee PEteachers, and abolished compulsory team games for children aged over 14.
In particular he argues for the government to fund an army of around 100 primary PE Specialists who would spend a day a week for a term in every school in England to raise the profile of PE and improve teachers' expertise.
The Liberal Democrats have called for PEteachers to be replaced with "PE coordinators", who would work across an area rather than a single school, specialising in one or two sports each.
