Many colleges and universities are struggling to find the right balance and respond effectively to theneedfor diverse learning styles and to accommodate student interests outside the structure of academic disciplines and professional accreditation-driven curricular expectations.
Mr Ladyman said the department was also working with Mencap on a number of ideas for improving the health of people with learning disabilities, including theneedfor primary care services to proactively identify people's health problems.
Health minister John Hutton said the research showed theneedfor local authorities to ensure people with learning difficulties were carefully assessed to ensure they received the most appropriate form of residential placement for them.
