Bush made SocialSecurity reform a top item of his campaign for president last year, and created the President's Commission to Strengthen SocialSecurity in May to find solutions to the what has been termed an impending SocialSecurity crisis.
Early reports from the deficit commission are touching the third-rail of politics (Social Security) and that may heighten the tax, spending and deficit cutting debate, leading to further gridlock in the upcoming lame-duck session.
Rick Santorum, R-Pennsylvania, and other Republicans praised the commission's report, saying it offered the possibility of a SocialSecurity solution without raising payroll taxes on future workers.
