The schemes also have the backing of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) which welcomed reinvigorating the sciencebase for "the benefit of business and the UK as a whole".
That's important in a sector where the sciencebase is strong, notably with Dundee University's drug discovery, but it's proving tough to get scale and momentum in the private sector.
By 2020, knowledge, the sciencebase and technologies relating to biodiversity, its values, functioning, status and trends, and the consequences of its loss, are improved, widely shared and transferred, and applied.
