Most of us think government's longstanding advice on good nutrition should come from the conclusions of a deliberative scientific processweighing top expertise in nutrition, public health and human physiology, not from negotiations with special interests.
When the State Department decided that those concerns were legitimate and there needed to be an alternate route, that began another process, and this process requires the careful weighing of a variety of criteria, and that has always been the case.
The process included physical verification, weighing, measuring, length, status, nature, value, provenance, description and digital photography of each object.
