The U.S. cable industry now has 25 million digital cable customers, 20 million high-speed Internet customers and 3 million telephone customers, according to the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA).

Vonage, one of the leading VoIP vendors in the U.S., has over 400, 000 paying customers, and the National Cable and Telecommunications Association estimates there are already more than 450, 000 cable VoIP subscribers.

"Today's Supreme Court decision is a victory for consumers and maintains the momentum to advance broadband in the U.S. Classifying cable modem service as an interstate information service, as the FCC did, keeps this innovative service on the right deregulatory path, " said a statement from the National Cable and Telecommunications Association, the industry's principal trade association.
