In June this year, the MittalSteelCompany, which began life as a small family-run company in the north of India, successfully took over Luxembourg-based rival Arcelor to create the world's biggest steel manufacturer.
Formed in 2006 by the merger of two steel giants Arcelor and Mittal, the company produces over 100 million metric tons of steel annually and has operations in 20 countries on four continents.
And a foray outside steel into the world of oil ended in frustration when Mittal Steel's joint bid with Indian oil company ONGC for PetroKazakhstan was topped by China National Petroleum Corp.
