Nursesusingnewtechnologies to careforpatients, includingthe elderly, in their homeshavebeen shown to reduce the numberofhospital readmissionsand visits to emergencywards.
This is where at least some of the current pressures are coming from, with people spending 24-36 hours - and in some cases up to three days - stuck in emergencywards because they can't be transferred elsewhere in a hospital.
Last month, all 999 emergency admissions and GP referrals to the hospital ended and beds on one of three wards as well as the medical assessment unit transferred to neighbouring hospitals.
