What a pity, thinks the student, that the professor, risen from a fatherless childhood in New York's Hell's Kitchen to become a seemingly permanent star of the Senate, should be intent on retiring in 2000.
"There is a fear that Hell's Kitchen would revert to the problematic area that was back 10 or 20 years ago, " said Jesse Clinton, president of the West 44th Street Better Block Association.
The result of the singer's ambition is " Itica Pritica" (the "C" sounds like a "K"), an exhibition of more than 20 silk-screened works by Matthews and close friend Beezy Bailey at the Robert Miller Gallery in Hell's Kitchen.
