It originally described itself as "the East West Weekly", being established in the year of German reunification, but underwent a substantial rebranding in 2009, including the addition of the definite article (it was previously just Freitag).
OpenLeaks also announced for the first time the names of its media partners: German newspapers Die Tageszeitung and the weekly DerFreitag, Danish paper Dagbladet Information, the Portugese newsweekly Expresso, as well as the German food- and environment-focused non-profit Foodwatch.
