Ironically, while U.S. exports of high-sulfur diesel have risen from roughly 1% to nearly 12% of the total domestic diesel supply, U.S. imports of low-sulfur diesel have jumped from less than 1, 000 barrelsperday in the first half of 2006 to well over 100, 000 barrelsperday.
Since then, at least 5, 000 barrels of oil perday have erupted from the broken well pipe which is 5, 000 feet under water, 40 miles off the coast of Louisiana.
Though its 3.96 million barrels of net oil equivalent perday still puts it well ahead of all publicly traded oil giant except the freshly expanded Rosneft, the slip shows just how hard it is for a giant to keep replacing declining output, let alone grab some growth.
