Abstract: A major feature of Habermas's critical theory is to take “learning” or “collective learning” as a kernel concept, which is used not only to explicate his understanding of rationality and rationalization, but also to inform his ideas of the objectivity and reflexivity of societal evolution, the universal and the contextual in the sphere of values, the critical and immanent dimensions of the critical social theory, the probability and necessity of intercultural dialogues, and so on. “Learning” is not only displayed in his theoretical writings, but also in his theoretical activities: learning from being involved in academic and public debates, from reflecting upon his own personal experiences, especially from his activities as an intellectual in the public sphere in participating and enhancing collective learnings in Germany, Europe and in the whole world.
