顽固性便秘多发生于老年人，是指一种长期的、慢性功能性便秘。顽固性便秘是由于先天或获得性结、直肠解剖结构改变而在不同年龄段逐渐产生的排便困难的一类疾病。顽固性便秘的实质是慢性的不全性肠梗阻，临床便秘可分为结肠慢传输型便秘、出口梗阻型便秘和两者并存的混合型便秘。以女性多见。
