面积比又称“面积比例尺”。是衡量地图投影面积变形的数量指标。即投影面上的无穷小面积dF’与地球椭球面上相应无穷小面积dF之比。设以P表示面积比，则P=dF′/dF′，当P=1时，投影后面积相等；当P>1时，投影后的面积放大；当P<1时，投影后的面积缩小。面积比值是个变量，随位置不同而变化。
