远洋捕捞是指在200米等深线以外大洋区进行捕捞作业。我国是海洋捕捞业大国，但随着近海环境恶化与渔业资源枯竭，近海捕捞业发展已陷入困境，远洋捕捞业成为海洋捕捞业新的增长点。远洋捕捞产品营养丰富，同时远离人类活动区域，具有无污染、绿色健康的优良特性，对保证人们饮食健康和消费升级具有重要意义。虽然近年来我国远洋捕捞业发展迅速，但相对于远洋渔业发达国家，我国远洋捕捞业发展仍较为落后。
