赞助，是指企业为了实现自己的目标（获得宣传效果）而向某些活动体育、艺术、社会团体提供资金支持的一种行为。体育赞助，是指企业为体育赛事或运动队提供经费、实物或相关服务等支持，而体育赛事组织者或运动队以允许赞助商享有某些属于它的权利（如冠名权、标志使用权及特许销售权等）或为赞助商进行商业宣传（如广告）作为回报。 赞助的实质是双方资源或利益的交换与合作。因此一项成功的赞助必须是双方互利互惠、互有所得的，它也是受法制化市场经济左右的。赞助绝非只是“卖广告”或“属冠名权”，而是双方资源重新配置的深层次合作。
