膨胀珍珠岩是一种天然酸性玻璃质火山熔岩，非金属矿产，包括珍珠岩、松脂岩和黑曜岩，三者只是结晶水含量不同。由于在1000～1300℃高温条件下其体积迅速膨胀4～30倍，故统称为膨胀珍珠岩。一般要求膨胀倍数>7～10倍（黑曜岩>3倍，可用），二氧化硅70%左右。均为露天开采。不用选矿，只需破碎，筛分即可。 可用作过滤剂、催化剂、分子筛以及橡胶、化肥、农药的载体。广泛用于建筑、冶金、石油、机械、轻工、水电、铸造、医药、食品、农林园艺等部门。
