肝炎后肝硬化是指由于各同病因引起的肝脏慢性、进行性、弥漫性病变，其特点是在肝细胞坏死的基础上发生纤维化，并代之以纤维包绕的异常肝细胞结节（假小叶）。我国肝硬化的主要病因是病毒性肝炎，一般认为乙型肝炎病毒( HBV)、丙型肝炎病毒( HCV)和丁型肝炎病毒的长期感染可引起肝硬化。 慢性乙型肝炎为何转变为肝硬化 由于病人体内乙型肝炎病毒长期存在井进入肝细胞内，在肝细胞核内复制病毒的核酸部分，然后再在细胞浆中包上外壳．如此反复整合的过程中，不断刺激免疫系统，产生致敏淋巴细胞及相应的抗体．与抗体结合的致敏淋巴细胞和表面带有乙型肝炎病毒的肝细胞相结合，使肝细胞破坏，病毒被消灭。在这个过程中．还产生纤维因子*使纤维母细胞合成胶原的作用增强，致使肝内纤维组织不断地增生，久而久之，使肝脏发生纤维化．形成了肝硬化。
