结石性胆囊炎系指胆囊内或胆囊颈部发生结石的疾病。其临床表现取决于结石的部位、大小、是否引起感染、梗阻以及梗阻的部位和程度。结石性胆囊炎是胆道系统中最常见的病变。根据其所在部位不同，可有胆囊结石、原发性或继发性胆总管结石、肝外胆管或肝内胆管结石之分。 我国慢性胆囊炎、胆囊结石患病率为16.09%，占所有良性胆囊疾病的74.68%。胆囊结石是最常见的慢性胆囊炎危险因素，慢性结石性胆囊炎占所有慢性胆囊炎的90%～95%，慢性非结石性胆囊炎则不常见，占所有慢性胆囊炎的4.5%～13.0%。
