本病是养殖鱼中最严重的疾病之一，我国各养殖地区均有发生。草鱼、青鱼最易发病，鲤、鳙也有发生。草鱼、青鱼流行时间为4~10月，常表现为两个流行高峰。1龄以上的草鱼、青鱼发病多在5~6月，甚至提前到4月份，当年草鱼种大多在7~9月发病。水温在18℃以上开始流行，流行高峰水温为25~30℃，全国各养鱼地区均有发生。此病常和细菌性烂鳃病、赤皮病并发。
预防和治疗副伤寒沙门氏菌、大肠杆菌、霍乱、细菌性下痢及致病细菌混合感染引起的肠炎病有特效。
