亦称细菌病毒，或简称噬菌体。是一类感染细菌使菌体裂解而增殖的病毒。是由F．d′Herelle（1917）和F．W．Twort（1915）各自独立的发现。d′Here－lle根据“吞噬细菌”生物的这一涵义，命名为细菌噬菌体。
