空心村，农村建设上，在农民新建住宅的过程中，由于村庄规划严重滞后等原因，农村居民点用地往往不能合理、有效地利用。新建住宅大部分都集中在村庄外围，而村庄内却存在大量的空闲宅基地和闲置土地，形成了内空外延的用地状况，即所谓的“空心村”。经济上，空心村是指随着我国城市化和工业化进程，大量的农村青壮年都涌入城市打工，除出过年的十几天，其它的时间均工作在城市、生活在城市。因此，使得留在农村的人口都是老弱病残的现象。因其农村常住人口有如大树之空心，故名之空心村。
