环县道情皮影是秦陇文化与周边族群文化相融合,古老的道情与皮影相结合的产物。相传产生于宋代,民间俗称“灯影戏”、“小戏”、“老道情”,采取“借灯、传影、配声以演故事”的手段,融民间音乐、美术和口传文学为一体,成为当地人民倾诉情感、丰富文化生活和承担祭祀、过关、还愿、节庆等习俗的综合性艺术。明、清时期得到了发展,尤其是清末经“环县道情皮影大师”解长春的改革、创新和完善,使这一民间艺术达到鼎盛。
