独立核算单位（independent accounting unit）是指与“非独立核算单位”相对。对生产经营活动及其成果进行全面系统的会计核算的企业。一般应同时具备以下条件：（1）具有法人地位的经济单位；（2）有完整的会计工作组织体系；（3）独立编制财务收支计划和资金平衡表，自行计算盈亏；（4）在银行开设独立帐户，可对外办理购销业务和货币结算等。行政、事业单位中，对预算执行过程进行全面核算和独立编制决算的，也称独立核算单位，如高等院校，某些中等专业学校、中学等。
