激光陀螺，是指利用激光光束的光程差测量物体角位移的装置。例如，一个三角形环状激光器，其中放置激光发生器，产生氦氖激光在三角形三个顶端放置反射镜形成闭合光路，使分光镜将一束激光分为正反两向传播的两束激光。当物体（激光器）没有角位移时，两束激光没有光程差，它们会聚在一起时不相干涉。如果物体移动产生角位移，两束激光相遇时就会产生干涉，利用光的干涉条纹测出物体的角位移，以此计算出物体的角速度，从而完成机械式陀螺同样的任务。它的精度大大高于机械式陀螺，没有运动部件，易于维护，可靠性高，寿命长，从而取代机械式陀螺，成为大中型飞机惯性基准系统的核心部件，但是它比机械式陀螺的体积大，价格高，因此在小型飞机上使用的较少。
