溶质势亦称渗透势，单位水量从一个平衡的土-水系统移到没有溶质的，而其他条件都相同的参比状态水池时所做的功。指水分子和溶质离子间相互作用的势能；土壤水中溶解有各种溶质，不同离子和水分子之间存在吸引力，这些力的作用降低了水的自由能，使所产生的势能低于纯水的势能。纯水的溶质势等于0；含有各种溶质的土壤水溶液，溶质势为负值。在含盐很低的土壤中，溶质势可以忽略；在盐碱地.溶质势在总土水势中起重要作用。在土壤-植物-大气连续系统中，植物吸水主要是由于溶质势的作用。
