水源枯竭（exhaustion of water source） 因自然或人为原因导致供水水源的出水量减少以至完全断水的现象。水源是为某种用水要求在较长期可提供一定数量和质量水量的源地，通过全球水文循环不断补给。地表水体如河流、淡水湖泊及人工水库以及浅层地下水含水层等都是常见的水源。深层地下水含水层也是很好的水源，但其补给量与当年降水联系较弱，应避免长期大量采用。
