民间文化（folk culture）是指由社会底层民众集体创造的自发和自娱的通俗文化。从社会分层看，民间文化来自社会底层，并且由平民自发的创造。 是由社会底层的劳动人民创造的、古往今来就存在于民间传统中的自发的民众通俗文化。是一种“自娱自乐型”的文化。它立足于民众生产、生活的具体背景，以一种通俗活泼的形式，所自发创造出来的用以娱乐民众自我的文化形态。
