早产儿贫血是指早产儿或低出生体重儿在生后一年内发生的贫血。这与胎儿期各种生理功能发育更不完善有关。早产儿骨髓造血功能薄弱。由于早产儿，婴儿过早地停止了胎内的骨髓外造血，因而不能适应生后机体快速生长发育。还有，胎龄8个月以前由母体获得的铁较少，8个月以后才开始获得较多的铁，由于早产使婴儿铁储存减少。本病一般分为早期及晚期贫血，发生于3～4个月以后者，主要由于铁缺乏所致。
