断面收缩率是衡量材料塑性变形能力的性能指标。采用标准拉伸试样测试。试样拉断时颈缩部位的截面积与原始截面积之差，除以原始截面积之商的百分数即为断面收缩率。该值愈大说明材料的塑性愈好，对于锅炉、压力容器受压元件及其他重要工程构件的材料必须严格控制该值。
