改善维修是在设备修理过程中同时对设备进行改装、改造，以改善和提高设备的性能、精度及生产效率的一种设备维修方式。本世纪60年代初产生的一种新的维修方式，生产性维修的重要组成部分之一。重点是对经常发生故障的设备或其部位，在维修时，积极进行结构改革。把设备的修理和改善结合起来，可以减少以至杜绝重复性故障的出现，设备在质的方面有所提高；可以减少设备维修和改造的工作量，节约设备管理费用。
