从化肥制造方法上讲，氮素来源为尿素的复合肥就叫做尿基复合肥。尿基复合肥是用尿素为氮源和氯化铵、氯化钾、硫酸钾、重钙、磷铵等基础肥料作为原料进行二次加工制取的高浓度氮磷钾多元复合肥，常用的生产方法有挤压法、团粒法、料浆法和熔体法等。其中常规团粒法和料浆法最为常用，特别是高浓度尿基复合肥，生产工艺一般要在原料中添加一定量的水分，以满足造粒的需要，并在后工序中设有干燥设备，由此既影响到产品的颗粒强度，也增加了装置的投资费用。
