容积式制冷压缩机是依靠压缩腔的内部容积缩小来提高气体或蒸气压力的制冷压缩机。工作原理是依靠工作腔容积的变化来压缩气体或蒸汽，因而它具有容积可周期变化的工作腔。按工作腔和运动部件形状，容积式压缩机可分为“往复式”和“回转式”两大类。前者的运动部件进行往复运动，后者的运动部件做单方向回转运动。
目前家用冰箱和空调器压缩机都是容积式的制冷压缩机，其中又可分为往复式压缩机和旋转式压缩机。
