又称“围岩分类”。对隧道周围一定范围内的岩体所划分的级别。当地下洞室开挖后,四周岩体的结构和应力分布状况将发生变化;而这种变化反过来又严重影响工程的修建及使用。人们为综合评价这种影响,按围岩的地质状态,将其划分为若干等级。世界上用于地下工程围岩分级的思路及方法多种多样,但一个共同的趋势是以岩体被挖开后的稳定性为基础。中国铁路隧道现行的围岩分级方法,主要考虑岩体的结构特征和完整状态、岩石的物理力学性质,共分六级,据此编制出不同型式的洞身衬砌、洞门等结构物的标准设计,采用相应的施工方法。
