变现性是将资产变为现金的易难程度。如果一项资产可以很容易地转变为现金且不需显著的花费，则这项资产的变现性就强，否则变现性就差。对投资者来说，用于金融资产的投资较易变为现金，如在二级资本市场发达的情况下，所持股票可较为容易地变为现金，其变现性为好;但投资者用于实物资产(存货、固定资产等)的投资则相对较难以变为现金，其变现性就差。
现金及现金等值项目包括现金及变现性高之短期附息证券。此等证券于购入时其到期时限不超过三个月。
