区位一词来源于德语“standort”，英文于1886年译为“location”，即定位置、场所之意，我国译成区位，日本译成“立地”，有些意译为位置或布局，在某些情况下也可用。“区位”一词在现代汉语词典中没有收入，那么“区位”是什么意思呢？课本中的解释是：“某事物的区位包括两层含义：一方面指该事物的位置，另一方面指该事物与其他事物的空间的联系。”
