通常指在人的感官有共同的生理机能，人类社会有发展的共同道路，人类有共同的实践经验、精神需要，大自然为人们提供基本相同的自然环境这一基础上产和的具有普遍共同性的美。 但对什么是共同美，有三种不同的理解： (1)认为共同美就是共同的美感。即不同时代、民族、阶级的人们在一定条件下，对于同一事物所产生的相同或相近的审美感受、审美评价。 (2)认为共同美存在于审美对象本身，即认为共同美是指客观存在的美本身的相对共同性。 (3)认为共同美即是对美感而言，也是对美而言，是共同的美感与共同的美的统一。
