光通信设备，利用光波传输信息的通信设备。由信号发送、信号传输和信号接收3部分组成。根据传输介质不同，分为大气激光通信装置、光纤激光通信装置、空间激光通信装置和波导型激光通信装置。激光通信具有信息容量大，抗干扰，保密性强，设备轻便等优点。但大气激光通信装置因激光在大气中传播有衰减现象，不能越过障碍物，瞄准困难，影响通信距离。而光纤通信装置则较好地克服了这些缺点。波导型激光通信装置的缺点是外界条件(土层移动、温度变化)的影响较大。空间激光通信装置相当复杂， 正处于研制阶段。
