信息推送服务是指在网络环境下，针对用户的信息需求通过数据库和信息互联网络检索到符合用户要求的文献信息，然后以E-mail的方式将检索结果通过信息互联网络发送到用户手中。IPS也可以是信息服务单位将检索到的相关信息，按学科或专题通过该单位的主页向特定用户提供。IPS是信息个性化服务的具体体现，是网络环境下信息服务的新方式。由于信息互联网络日趋发达，IPS将会成为文献信息收藏单位今后开展信息服务的主要方式。
