位移运动 locomotion 亦称位置运动，在植物学中常称为自由运动。位移运动是相对于局部运动而言，是指个体在外围空间内变位和移动的运动，在植物界这种运动只见于低等植物的个体乃至裸子植物的配子；但在动物界除了固附性的个体或卵以外，这种运动的能力都很发达，可以看到具有各种发达的运动器官（locomotor app-aratus）。植物界是依靠鞭毛或纤毛等进行游走运动、滑行运动、以及变形运动。即在原生动物中进行变形运动、纤毛运动和鞭毛运动。而在后生动物中除了涡虫类（纤毛上皮）、轮虫类（纤毛冠）以及多数幼体的纤毛运动外，其余的主要是依靠肌肉运动。位移运动的主要形式是游泳、匍匐、步行、走行、跳跃、飞行等。动物体形的左右对称以及头部形成（cephali zation）是具有适应运动的意义。位移运动一般表现为整个运动系统有秩序地调节活动，支配运动的运动中枢的机能是固定的还是非固定的，因动物的种类而不同。另外像种子等的被动的移动，从严格的意义来说不能算是运动，所以一般称之为被动运动（passive movement）。
