任务驱动教学本质上应是通过“任务”来诱发、加强和维持学习者的成就动机。成就动机是学生学习和完成任务的真正动力系统。任务作为学习的桥梁，“驱动”学生完成任务的不是老师也不是“任务”，而是学习者本身，更进一步说是学习者的成就动机。因此，任务并不是静止和孤立的，它的指向应是学习者成就动机的形成，即任务是一个由外向内的演化过程，是以成就动机的产生为宗旨的。“任务驱动”就是通过“任务内驱”走向“动机驱动”的过程。
目前，在中等职业技术教育中计算机教学仍旧以任务驱动式教学方式为主。
