本条目的二苯乙烯是指1，2-二苯乙烯，其还有一个异构体1，1-二苯乙烯，以下二苯乙烯均指1，2-二苯乙烯。二苯乙烯分为顺式二苯乙烯与反式二苯乙烯，自然界中主要以反式二苯乙烯存在。反式构型以苷元或苷存在于天然植物中比较多，并常形成反式一3，4’，5一三羟基二苯乙烯(白藜芦醇)的骨架及其衍生物分布在多种植物中。由于反式一二苯乙烯类化合物独特的药效，抗老年痴呆、抗癌、抗菌、抗氧化、降低血脂等多种重要的生物学功能，近些年引起了国内外学者的高度重视。
