上皮样囊肿是颅内最常见的外胚层组织肿瘤，约占原发性脑瘤的1%，亦称表皮样囊肿、胆脂瘤或珍珠瘤。源自胚胎发育期异位的上皮组织碎片，通常在胚胎第3～5周，自神经沟分离的上皮异位在两个外胚层之间，而形成了板障内或头皮内的肿瘤。可位于硬脑膜外、硬脑膜下，蛛网膜下腔内、脑实质内盈脑室内等处。肿瘤可发生在颅盖骨的任何部位，但多见于额部和颞部。
