职业大学是中国实施高等职业技术教育的地方性大学。以培养地区中小企业所需的应用型人才为主要目标，专科学习年限 2 年～3 年，本科为4年。采取联合办学、合同代培、定向培养、有偿分配等多种形式。经费与师资来源依靠社会力量解决。 2018年开始，教育部门在新设本科院校更名上的谨慎或许表明未来将真正将“严控大学更名”。“职业学院”或“职业技术学院”在更名升本中均保留“职业”两个字。职业大学已经包含专科和本科两个层次。
