美国耶鲁大学的心理学家斯腾伯格（Sternberg,1985）提出了智力的三元理论（triarchic theory of intelligence），试图阐明更为普遍的智力行动。斯腾伯格认为，最大多数的智力理论是不完备的，它们只从某个特定的角度说明智力。
